In January 2006, the first womens' micro-enterprise group was started in Sajonte, Guatemala. Within only 10 short months - the women have sold hundreds of woven bags, bringing much needed income into their families. And one of the first opportunities to connect to outside markets.
They are also making new designs on their bags - as seen here. This area is known for their unique pattern. And throughout other parts of Guatemala, you can recognize people from this region, based on the handwoven pattern.
The most exciting news is that with the help of a CHOICE community member, Mark Jones, they now have sewing machines and a loom. They are branching out to new textiles and designs.

I am so proud of teams like Choice Humanitarian and all the people who're helping each proyect from Utah. Thank you very much, my original country is Guatemala but I reside in Utah from many years ago, just today I read about the airplane crash, I am presenting one's condolences to the families of the members who passed away and praying for those in critical condition at hospitals. I understand that is very hard situation and hope everything will be over. Please don't give up.
